Doug delights audiences with his singing impressions of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and many of today’s top country artists. While his singing is enjoyable, equally impressive is his use of impromptu humor covering a myriad of voices including the last seven Presidents. Doug got his start at an early age, perfecting his first impression at age 5. “I used to mimic the sound of a tire peeling out and when my dad would round a corner I would throw my voice to make it sound like the sound was coming outside the car” Steel said. This event usually resulted in Doug’s father receiving a good scolding from Doug’s mother. Eventually, the pair figured out that young Doug was the culprit. Both parents encouraged the young Steel to pursue his talent of mimicking voices. “I can remember as a child being surrounded by adults at a family gathering and they would ask me to do Howard Cosell or Muhammad Ali. Mimicing Cosell I might say “Ladies and gentlemen, we have with us here today, one of the greatest 7 year old athletes of our time, the great Doug Steel. Now Doug’s father is approaching Doug because young Doug forgot to do chores, will he take a swing at the young Steel.” Switching to Muhammad, I might say. “Go ahead dad, go ahead and spank me dad, you can’t, cause I’m fast daddy, I’m fast.” Such skits always resulted in a roomful of laughter and inspired the young Steel to pursue entertainment. Sadly, Doug’s father passed away when Doug was just 13. “I have many fond memories of singing and teasing with my dad. The laughter and fun I bring to the stage is my way of paying tribute to the wonderful man that he was.” Steel said. Doug grew up in the midwest and pursued a masters degree in therapy from the University of Kansas. He perfected many voices in graduate school and used humor to help many of his clients in therapy. For the past 10 years, Doug has performed throughout Kansas singing at festivals, corporate events and private parties. He moved to Las Vegas in 2004 where he entertains throughout the Las Vegas Valley. For booking information call 702-265-5779 |
